Leica 75mm Summarit

A superb small lens for the M system! This lens has drawn a fair amount of criticism from Leica shooters. It has been branded as having poor mechanical parts and being optically inferior. Are these accusations true? We will find out!

First let have a look at the specifications as from Leica:

Angle of view(diagonal, horizontal, vertical) For 35 mm (24 x 36 mm) : 32°, 27°, 18°.
Optical design: Number of lenses/groups: 6 / 4
Focal length: 75.0 mm
Position of entrance pupil: 29.9 mm (related to the first lens surface in light direction)
Focusing range: 0.9 to endless
Scales: Combined meter/feet graduation
Aperture: Preset, with click-stops, half values available, F/2.5 thru F/16

Overall, this is a lightweight  small lens! A real plus for the the Leica M shooter.  By comparison the Summicron 75mm weighs 430g, it is an F/2.0 lens, so this is to be expected.

MTF

MTF for this lens shows very good performance. Centre performance looks to quite good at F/2.5 with a slight resolution drop in the mid region. By F/5.6 this lens should be super sharp corner to corner.
